Immigration
Ross Overby’s Vision
When it comes to immigration we must look toward a comprehensive solution that addresses all of our needs. We need secure borders, we need an organized process for immigration, and we need penalties for immigrants and employers that break our laws. We must then move forward without malice.
We must reject Sue Myrick's narrow view. Immigrants are not an "invasion", they are not criminals filling our jails, they are not a highway tragedy waiting to happen. We are not a nation filled with malice. We have a broken policy that needs mending. Our government has a 19th century policy for a 21st century need. Foreign residents enter our country illegally, employers knowingly hire them, and consumers seek the products of their labor. Hidden within these issues are immigrant workers living in fear and too often experience deplorable working conditions. This is not justice, this is not human dignity, this is not our Christian heratige. Our government has no policy to address these intertwined isues. We are turning our heads and ignoring one of the most critical problems our country faces today.
Antiquated Policies Threaten our Security
Our antiquated immigration policy threatens the security of our nation. If we implement a comprehensive solution that results in orderly immigration, we will then know that anybody sneaking across the border is up to no good. But what do we get from the incumbent? Theatrics and malice. She closes her bank account in protest of immigrant-friendly products offered by her bank. She attacks a small percent of the drunk driving scourge, and she fans malice toward immigrants. But our borders are still not secure!
Where does the real answer lie?
A comprehensive policy will return America to its founding values – the belief that hard work leads to great rewards. Immigrants have always made our country better. Every immigrant movement in our history resulted in more jobs and a stronger America. We are a nation of immigrants dedicated to greatness under freedom. Let’s create an orderly process for legal immigration that reflects our job market. Lets then welcome immigrants, help integrate them into our culture, and build our schools and training centers to help all workers rise up to the new and higher paying jobs immigrants help produce. But let’s do it with respect for human dignity, order and the law.
