Health Care
Ross Overby’s VisionI want every American to personally control their health care. I want every American to have affordable catastrophic care insurance. I want every American to have access to low cost preventative care such as annual check-ups, cancer screening, and blood work.
I want to protect seniors. Medicare coverage should be simple. Americans who spend a lifetime supporting their families and building this country should not be worrying about their health care needs. We need to simplify Medicare, starting with prescription coverage.
I want more competition among community clinics and neighborhood health care centers. If we help cut the administrative costs for doctors, we can ask them to be more forthcoming on the cost for general services. I want every American to build health care wealth where employers and employees contribute to tax advantaged health care savings accounts.
Where is the Compassion? The Republican Party positions itself as the home of compassionate conservatives. Where is the compassion when it comes to health care? Over 45 million Americans do not have health care insurance, are you next? Working poor cannot afford prenatal care, they cannot afford quality baby care; they cannot afford a simple check-up. Businesses across America are suffering under the weight of skyrocketing health care costs. Over $1500 is added to the cost of a new American-made car just to cover the cost of health care. Is this compassion?
What is the breaking point It can cost about $14,000 to insure a family of four, and costs continue to rise dramatically. Where does it stop? Is $18,000 too much; how about $25,000? When does the system break? The Bush Administration and Sue Myrick do not believe this issue is a high priority. They seem to think that if we just stay the course our health care problems will work themselves out. In their compassion the Republicans want to give you a $15,000 tax credit should you lose your insurance and to go at it alone. Do you have $15,000 burning a hole in your pocket? It is a naïve approach that does not serve America’s interests. We have lost our moral compass. We need health care for all Americans, and we need it now.
Work the Problem - Lower the cost and increase access
Over 30 percent of our health care dollars go into paperwork. I want to lower costs by greatly reducing paper work, computerizing health records, and by liberating the market force that could exist in general health care services. We increase competition by establishing standards for medications and medical devices and then allow our medical community to acquire medication and supplies from global suppliers that have been proven safe and effective. We lower the cost of medical care by allowing any entity paying for medical supplies and prescriptions to negotiate prices. I want to increase access by providing incentives for business to provide insurance and to contribute to your heath care wealth and security.
